Read at The Conversation- The first few seconds of a YouTube short is essential for engagement and keeping retention. A good hook will grab viewer’s attention and encourage them to watch more of the short instead of swiping away.
- Content should be well edited, simple and to the point, while also being delivered at a fast and consistent pace to keep the interest of viewers. It is best to avoid dry content patches so viewers don’t swipe away.
- Engaging graphics, subtitles and animations that relate to the content will keep viewer retention up as it gives viewers something to look at while they listen to the short. The more cuts, camera shot changes and images/graphics in a short will also keep viewers from getting bored.
- Shorts are popular with younger demographics, so ideas and concepts should be explained in simple terms. Overly complex concepts could be hard for viewers to understand, and they might lose interest.
